Practice
Most renters never expect to need a lawyer. But when a landlord refuses to return a deposit, ignores serious problems, or pressures a tenant to give up their rights, having the right advocate can make all the difference.
Over the past 12 years, I’ve advised more than 1,000 Chicago tenants and recovered over $1 million in deposits and compensation. Many of these clients were hiring a lawyer for the first time, unsure about costs and intimidated by a legal system that can feel overwhelming. My goal is to make the process clear and approachable while still fighting for meaningful results.
I founded Brabender Law LLC to give tenants a strong voice when landlords ignore their responsibilities. My practice is devoted to representing renters in disputes with their landlords, including security deposit recovery, early lease terminations, and cases involving unsafe living conditions that lead to injuries. By focusing exclusively on tenants’ rights, I’m able to provide practical advice and efficient solutions for renters who often feel powerless in these situations.
My commitment to advocacy grew out of my early career experiences. After earning my law degree with high honors from Chicago-Kent College of Law and being inducted into the Order of the Coif, I began my legal career at the Cochran Firm’s Chicago office, where I helped recover millions for injury victims and their families. I also served as a judicial extern to Hon. Rebecca Pallmeyer, now Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Those experiences shaped my belief that individuals deserve a strong advocate when the system feels stacked against them.
Outside of work, I enjoy hiking and exploring the outdoors with my wife and our two young sons.
If you’re a renter dealing with a difficult landlord situation, I’m here to help you understand your options and move forward with confidence.
